June 14th...The 1st couple of nights after the surgery were a bit rough.... Harley is very sensitive to pain and cried at least every 15 minutes throughout the night. He always calmed down when we sat with him on the mattress. He has quickly learned we are wrapped around his paw. However, nothing could keep him down for long. Within a week he was laying outside in the sun on the weekend.
He had to learn that he was not 100%, he was always trying to do more than he should have.
We had to do physical therapy- range of motion exercises- on him 2 to 3 times a day. Even though he was in pain, he was never anything but patient with us. He still has another few months of recovery ahead of him. He is not allowed to jump or run a lot but he goes on long walks a few times a day.
This past weekend we had a party for my husband and Harley went on his 1st road trip to Cleveland since the surgery. He was so great in the car. He was a hit at the party, everyone thought he was such a great, well behaved dog and who could ever give him up?
We are very lucky to have found such a great dog!

March 24th...Harley had his check up today and they removed all the staples. The vet said he is doing better than some of the dogs she has seen that had only one leg done! He only needs to go back if his family sees any issues.
On Sunday, he went for his first real walk...he was super excited even though it was only 5 minutes long! He also laid out in the sun for about an hour in the backyard. He is getting around very well and seems to be feeling a lot better!
March 16th...Harley's home! And he is getting lots and lots of attention! Harley's getting better every day!
March 15th...Harley's had his surgery! He is doing very well...except for the whining to go home. Michelle called the vet's office to check on Harley and heard some whining in the background when they answered the phone. They told her it was Harley! Harley really wants to go home! They reassured him that he would be going home tomorrow and that seemed to quiet him a bit. Harley loves his home! Thank you to everyone that donated to Harley's surgery! Your generosity is greatly appreciated. We will continue to post updates and pictures as Harley recovers. Harley has quite a fan club!
March 7th...Harley's surgery had to be rescheduled. Harley will be having his surgery on March 15th. Speedy recovery, Harley! And...Harley's family tells us that he has gained 15 pounds! Harley visited us at Satellite Adoptions one Saturday and he is as handsome as ever!
February 12 update... Michelle tells us that Harley is scheduled for his first surgery on February 26th. Harley is completely recovered from his pneumonia and doing great! He enjoyed the holidays and got lots of presents! We wish you a speedy recovery from your surgery, Harley! We love you!
December 3rd update...
Harley has returned from his Thanksgiving holiday trip. Harley had a blast meeting the family. Michelle's Mom thinks he is the calmest and
sweetest guy. Greg's family also liked Harley a lot.... a lot of petting going on.
Harley also got his fair share of table scraps! Harley was very good in the car. He was set up in the suv with his bed. For the most part he was laying on the bed, but curiousity was getting the best of him... he kept getting up to look out the windows. And some good news...Harley may only be on medication one more week which means his surgery could happen in January as planned! (Scroll down to donate to Harley. Many thanks!!)
November 19th update...
Here is Harley resting on the sofa (his favorite place in the house) with a favorite toy. He is worn out from his trip to the Dawg Wash for a bath, but doesn't he look handsome? He is already for his Thanksgiving trip to meet family members. Harley is not coughing anymore and he is feeling so much better. He has a check up at the vet on Wednesday.
November 13th update...
Thanksgiving is next week and Harley is very thankful! Here is the latest update from his family..
Harley is recovering and doing MUCH better. We just went in for a 10 day check up and the vet thinks there has been a lot of improvement although he still has about another month of recovery ahead. We will be going back right before Thanksgiving. Harley, Sebastian and Bella are all getting along very well. He is such a sweet boy, wagging his tail even when Bella is stealing toys from him! We have found that Harley LOVES to play, but we can't let him over do it yet... he is still recovering even if he doesn't know it.
November 1 update...
Harley's family is trying to get Harley to rest as much as possible, which is easier said than done! Their other dogs are excited to have Harley in the house and they (and Harley) don't understand why Harley can't play with them yet. Harley is eating and taking his pills like a champ. He still has a terrible cough, but other than that he seems to be feeling much better. The vet confirmed that it is in fact pneumonia, so rest and antibiotics are the only thing that will make him better. The family says Harley is a very quiet dog, and they haven't even heard him bark yet! Harley's tail is always wagging, and he is always in good spirits even though he is under the weather. He especially likes to go for walks, although his family has to keep Harley's walks short! |
